In trying to prepare for my first century, I drove a good portion of the RTB route over Spring Break.  The directions got a bit confusing going into Newberg High School.  Is the 2010 route map that is posted in teh training tips correct?
Does the route come down from Bell using Springbrook?  I'd like to train as much as I can on the actual route and want to be sure of where I'm going.

Thanks

I you are asking about the route I posted, I went off the same sheet of turn directions you are using AND I also found some odd street names around Newberg High School Transition.  the map I made is not 100% accurate, but it is as close as I could get without seeing exact street signs etc.

Good Luck

Thanks David, I think the way you brought it down is the most logical.  Hopefully it will be clear on the 15th.

Yes,  I imagine they will have arrows painted on the pavement at all turns.  although I havent been on the ride before, Ive seen other rides where they do this.

Hi there folks,
Not to worry, it will be super clearly marked especially in Newberg since that's our new start location and we want to make sure everyone gets there.

Hi Jensi,
Is it safe to assume that the same is true for the departure from Amity? As a newbie to Reach the Beach, I don't want to get lost in Amity.  Grin
Will the coarse be well marked?
Thanks,
Erik
Ps, Pretty excited. This is my first organized ride.

I'm messing around with some new mapping software and decided to map this course out.  It's a little different than the good work done by dann.sheridan in that it starts from the right location.  Other than that it's exactly the same but with a little bit more interactivity and an elevation profile.  You can highlight sections of the elevation prof and the map will zoom in on that segment.

Have fun!

I rode the route from Beaverton to Newberg last weekend.  It is a butt kicker going up, but coming down on Springbrook Drive was incredible and scary all at the same time (got over 45 mph!!).  I hope that is the street that the route follows to get to Newberg High School.  I'm new to distance riding and am so excited about RTB.  Less than a month to go!!!

Have fun out there.

Hi there folks, here at Reach the Beach HQ, we're getting really excited too, we're less than a month out and ready to go!
Regarding the route confusions and marking questions:
The route will be very well-marked throughout and especially well to help you all get in and out of your start locations (including Amity Erik) and rest stops  and back onto the road again.  We've also got volunteers at start locations to help direct so, no worries - it will be clear.  Also, I'm assuming that you all are checking out the route maps on www.ReachtheBeach.org under Routes & Maps.  I see a question as to whether or not we're on Bell then Springbrook around Newberg High School and if you take a look at the course map - we're definitely on Springbrook after Bell.

For those of you for whom this is your first organized ride, congratulations! Reach the Beach is a great choice in general and this year especially, our twentieth anniversary, we're pulling out the stops.  You're gonna love it.  One wonderful thing about this ride, as you may have noticed, is that your fellow riders are often repeat riders of Reach the Beach with great experience and information to share.  And next year, you will be one of them sharing your tips and advice to the next newbie Smiley
Thanks folks for all the tips and comments!
Looking forward to seeing you all very soon!

Thanks.  I haddnt seen this mapping site.  I like alot of the features.

so it seems that that climb between the start and Newburg ia somewhere in the CAT3 to CAT2 range.

I better get some climbing practice in the next couple saturdays.  max is 18% on that climb, average about 5%.

Here's a route that matches the length and catches the Newberg stop OCN skipped.

Well I drove the first 2 legs last night after work.  there are certainly a couple hair pin curves on the down hills between sherwood and Newburg.   overall though it didnt see horrible.  just dont expend ALL your energy on the hills.  I did get lost trying to drive and watch the map.  Glad it will be well posted.

See you all next Saturday.
